MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – All recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were taken into account for developing the radiation safety bill in Belarus, BelTA learned from Nikolai Vasilkov, Deputy Chairman of the Ecology, Nature Management, and Chernobyl Catastrophe Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
According to the MP, the bill is based on renewed international requirements in the area of radiation safety. “All the IAEA recommendations made after the comprehensive review of the regulatory infrastructure of nuclear and radioactive safety (IRRS) in 2016 are taken into account,” said Nikolai Vasilkov. The MP added that the bill had been discussed with lawyers and specialists of the Radiology Institute of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. Public opinions were also surveyed.
The novelties include the legislative stipulation of expert evaluation of radiation safety, consultations about radiation safety, and the state registration of the type of the source of ionizing radiation.
The parliamentarians believe that the bill will be given the first reading by the end of the current session.
