IAEA pledges further assistance to Belarus with BelNPP construction

VIENNA, 18 September (BelTA) – Belarus' Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk, Belarusian Ambassador to Austria, Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna Alena Kupchyna, and IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano met on the sidelines of the 61st General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Mikhadyuk congratulated the IAEA director general on his appointment to a further four-year term of office and briefed the high-ranking official on the progress in the BelNPP construction. He also invited Yukiya Amano to Belarus. The head of the IAEA reaffirmed the agency's commitment to assist Belarus with its nuclear power plant construction project.

The IAEA's 61st General Conference will last till 22 September. An exhibition dedicated to safety as a priority in Belarus' nuclear energy program has been arranged at the conference.
