Grodno university to host festival of Turkmen culture

GRODNO, 23 March (BelTA) – Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will host an open festival of Turkmen culture on 24 March, head of the university's education internationalization center Yelena Belokoz told BelTA.

The festival will be held in Grodno for the first time and will feature exhibitions, a concert program and a sports competition. The festival's guests will learn more about the Turkmen life, culture and traditional outfit. The university will set up a Belarusian stand and present the creative works of foreign students.

Goresh tournament is likely to become an event of special interest. Goresh is a Turkmen folk wrestling style. In 2016 it was included in the list of sports of the Asian belt wrestling federation. The goresh tournament and workshops will take place in the gymnasium of the university's main building.

Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has more than 400 Turkmen students. “Among all our foreign students the Turkmen community is the biggest. This is why we believe that this event will become another good tradition of the university,” Yelena Belovoz remarked.

According to her, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has students from 35 countries. Each student can put forward an initiative to organize a national festival.
