Grodno to hold regional Easter fair

GRODNO, 7 April (BelTA) — Grodno residents and visitors will be able to get acquainted with Easter traditions during a fair in the center of the city, BelTA learned from representatives of the Grodno Oblast Methodological Center of Folk Art.

The fair Regional Easter Traditions will take place in Grodno's Sovetskaya Square on 8 April. During the fair people will be able to get acquainted with Easter traditions of the Grodno region as well as meet with folk craftsmen and take part in master classes. Local craftsmen will also present their products.

"The fair is a great opportunity for young people to get to know traditions. This event's main goal is to assist with the process of revival, preservation and transmission of regional specific features of Grodno Oblast spiritual culture. The celebration is aimed at supporting and promotion of different kinds of traditional crafts," representatives of the Grodno Oblast Methodological Center of Folk Art said.

During the celebration guests will be able to learn how to decorate willow twigs which are symbolic of palm branch. The famous craftswoman Dominikana Kovalenok will tell about Grodno Oblast traditions while crafstwomen from Sopotskin will reveal secrets of painting Easter eggs. Natalya Klimko, a folk craftswoman from Novogrudok, will show how traditional paper cake doilies are created and the folk craftsman Maryan Skramblevich from the agro-town Odelsk, Grodno Oblast will present unique wooden musical instruments.

The fair will also include a contest for the best Easter basket, the best collection of Easter eggs, the best willow twig and the best Easter decorative panel. During the contest the author of the best presentation will also be chosen.

It is traditional to do charity on the eve of great celebrations so the fair will provide a chance for visitors to express their care and attention to those in need.
