Grodno Oblast, Poland preparing over 30 joint projects in tourism

GRODNO, 6 December (BelTA) - Grodno Oblast and Polish partners are preparing more than 30 joint projects in tourism, Oleg Andreichik, the head of sport and tourism at the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee, told BelTA.

Grodno Oblast and Polish partners are ready to submit more than 30 joint projects in tourism for the cross-border cooperation program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine. “Poland is also interested in such cooperation. Therefore there emerge new projects, new partners. For example, we began working on a joint project to improve the infrastructure of the ski resorts near Grodno and near Suwalki,” Oleg Andreichik said.

The projects are mainly aimed at enhancing the tourism infrastructure: from building bike lanes and piers on water arteries to the construction of bridges and development of the Neman River bed. “Emphasis is also placed on the projects showcasing the national identity: Belarusian culture, crafts, cuisine. National flavor is most interesting for foreign tourists,” he said.

According to Oleg Andreichik, the region has accumulated some experience in cooperation with Polish partners. Since 2007, the parties have implemented about 20 projects in tourism under the cross-border cooperation program. Over €10 million has been attracted to develop tourism infrastructure of Grodno Oblast.
