Grodno gearing up for record number of visa-free weekend visitors

GRODNO, 13 December (BelTA) – A traditional Father Frost Parade will take place in Grodno on 14 December. A record high number of foreigners is going to visit the city on this day, BelTA learned from the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

More than 2,500 foreigners have registered to visit the region visa-free for the upcoming weekend, 13-15 December (this is the biggest number of tourists opting for weekend getaways in Grodno this year).

“Travel agencies believe that the tourist inflow has to do with the traditional parade of Fathers Frost and other New Year characters that will take place in Grodno downtown in the evening of 14 December. Interesting events attract a big number of tourists. Indeed, tourist arrivals peaked during the SunDay motor festival, the Susedzi international cycling marathon, the Big Mini festival of street art and the Eliza Orzeszkowa summer ball,” the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee informed. The popularity of Grodno Oblast is also growing on the back of the visa-free regime. Since the start of the year, Grodno has welcomed over 120,000 visa-free tourists from more than 30 countries.

Taking part in the parade will be over 500 New Year characters and a dozen themed vehicles. The parade will start on Sovetskaya Square at 17:00 and proceed along Sovetskaya Street. It will be wrapped up with a dance flash mob and a concert on Lenina Square.
