Gomel Oblast to host Russian Cinema Days in April

GOMEL, 29 March (BelTA) – The Days of Russian Cinema, traditionally organized to mark the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia, will take place in all the cinema houses across Gomel Oblast in April, BelTA learned from senior editor of the repertory planning department of Gomelkinovideoprokat Company Svetlana Tarasenko.

The Days will screen new Russian films, including a unique cinema project based on a true story, First Time. It is a Russian historical drama film about the cosmonauts who performed the first space walk. The movie will be premiered on 6 April. The film stars Yevgeny Mironov as Aleksei Leonov and Konstantin Khabensky as Pavel Belyayev. Gomel residents and guests will also see Vladimir Bortko's melodrama About Love, science fiction and action film Dance to Death, Andrei Konchalovsky's drama Paradise, comedy The Kitchen. World Chef Battle, and the animated film Urfin Jus and His Wooden Soldiers.

Local film distributors decided to celebrate the release of the comedy in a big way. They announced a search for a lookalike of Dmitry Nagiyev who starred in the film. It is expected that the actor's look-alike will become the main participant in the battle of chefs, culinary master classes and tastings that will be organized prior to the premiere.

The Days of Russian Cinema will also feature the movies of past years, Svetlana Tarasenko said. By the way, Russia-made movies traditionally account for about 35% of the local box office. The Russian movies are always in top 10 highest-grossing films in Gomel Oblast.

The Days of Russian Cinema is one of numerous events planned in Gomel Oblast for the Day of Unity of Russia and Belarus marked on 2 April. On 31 March, for example, the Gomel Regional Drama Theater will hold a solemn meeting and a gala concert. A day earlier the city culture center will host an evening of Russian culture. Its organizers promise a cultural-entertaining program featuring Russian folk characters, Russian folk games, contests, quizzes, tasting of the national dishes, clay pottery workshops and also Russian songs and dances performed by the Vesyolye Devchata (merry girls) folk group from Russia.
