Gomel Oblast Days in Moscow draw potential partners

MOSCOW, 28 September (BelTA) – The Days of Belarus' Gomel Oblast kicked off at the Business and Culture Center of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia on 28 September. The event drew many potential partners, BelTA has learned.

Representatives of the governments of Moscow and Moscow Oblast, the heads of some 30 Russian regions, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moscow Confederation of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a number of enterprises and businesses gathered in Moscow to study the trade, economic, investment and tourism potential of Gomel Oblast. Attending the opening of the Days of Gomel Oblast also were State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota, Mnisters of the Eurasian Economic Commission Sergei Sidorsky and Valery Koreshkov, representatives of the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, ambassadors and heads of trade promotion services, and almost 30 diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko opened the Days of Gomel Oblast in Moscow and said that the region produces 100% of the Belarusian oil, 100% of window glass and fodder harvesters, over 90% of steel, some 90% of grain harvesters, more than 50% of paper and cardboard, and some 50% of motor gasoline and diesel fuel. Gomel Oblast actively develops interregional cooperation with Russia. It has over 70 cooperation and twinning agreements with Russian regions.

Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik said that the Days of Gomel Oblast in Moscow are a landmark event in the bilateral trade and economic relations. He noted that Russia accounts for 60% of the total foreign trade of the Belarusian region. “Belarusian food products are very popular with Moscow residents. Turov Dairy, Rogachev Milk Canning Plant and OAO Milkavita have increased their exports to Russia by some 30%. This means that every day, the Gomel Oblast enterprises supply some 300 tonnes of dairy products to almost every store in Moscow,” Vladimir Dvornik emphasized.

He noted that Russian businessmen eagerly invest in the economy of the region. “Our event aims to raise our trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and social ties to a higher level,” Vladimir Dvornik noted.

The program of the Days of Gomel Oblast in Moscow includes a presentation of nine large-scale investment projects, an exhibition of industrial products, and business meetings that have already yielded first results. The Gomel Oblast Executive Committee and the company Logistic System signed a protocol of intent to implement an investment project to produce environmentally friendly liquid concentrates. Agreements were signed between the administration of the free economic zone Gomel-Raton and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Gomel Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Russian center for analysis and business contacts BG Group, and also the Gomel technology park and the Moscow technology park Strogino.
