French military examine Belarusian army unit

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – French inspectors checked a Belarusian army unit on 19-23 March, the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The inspection team checked Belarusian army unit No.54804, which is subject to control in line with the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE Treaty). The inspectors also visited the 38th Guards Independent Airborne Brigade within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures.

The inspectors confirmed that the actual amount of weapons and military hardware on site corresponded to the data Belarus had submitted. The inspectors verified information about the number of personnel, the main weapon systems, and military hardware. Belarus had submitted the information to the OSCE member states within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures. The inspectors were also made familiar with the day-to-day operations of the brigade. The team included six French inspectors as well as military inspectors from Germany, Poland, and Turkey.

Italian inspectors checked the territory of Brest Oblast and Grodno Oblast on 20-23 March. They confirmed the absence of military activities, which are subject to preliminary notification in accordance with the 2011 Vienna Document. The team included three Italian inspectors and a U.S. inspector.
