Forum of Union State Programs sparks interest abroad

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The Forum of Union State Programs – 7th Forum of Engineering Universities is interesting not only for Russian and Belarusian education and science institutions but also for foreign ones, Deputy State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Aleksei Kubrin told the media, BelTA has learned.

The Forum of Union State Programs is unmatched, Aleksei Kubrin said. “The popularity of the forum is growing. It has already turned into an international event. This time it features six foreign universities. For the first time we have a university from Norway. The forum has been gaining clout and therefore it is of great interest not only to Russian and Belarusian education and science institutions but also to foreign ones. Therefore, its importance cannot be overstated,” he said.

This year's forum is dedicated to the University 3.0 program for universities of Russia and Belarus. Aleksei Kubrin said that the most important thing is to get the priorities right. “The level of training should correspond to the most advanced foreign standards. It should be combined with the training system of Belarusian universities because in part of organization and functioning the Soviet system of training engineers was very effective. This combination will help us achieve great results,” Aleksei Kubrin said.

Training of personnel for nuclear industry and the Belarusian nuclear power plant is another point of focus of the forum. “In this respect, we need to make the relations between Russia and Belarus even better. Russia is one of nuclear industry leaders while Belarus is a newcomer on this market. The first Belarusian nuclear power plant unit will come on stream in a year. The project will give a boost not only to economy but also science. Research centers are set up at every nuclear power plant as it is important to explore the processes in the nuclear reactor, general power grid system. We are talking about the future unified energy system of Russia and Belarus,” said the deputy state secretary of the Union State.

The rector of the Belarusian National Technical University Sergei Kharitonchik noted that the training of specialists for the Belarusian nuclear power plant is carried out in full cooperation with Russian universities.

The Arctic exploration will be one of the new topics at the forum. “This is a new integration project. We expect that the project will make use of the many technologies of the Belarusian National Technical University. Our university has already made preliminary visits to Murmansk and other cities in the Arctic region and made sure that specialists we train will be in demand. We understand how to train them, what technologies we need to teach them and how to interact in the Arctic region,” Sergei Kharitonchik said.

On 22-26 October, Minsk is playing host to the Forum of the Union State Programs - the 7th Forum of Engineering Universities. The event has gathered more than 300 scientists and students from over 100 universities. This year the forum has drawn representatives of higher education institutions from Poland, Uzbekistan, Norway and other countries. The forum consists of four sections which include more than ten seminars on science and technology in the Union State, including joint aircraft production and the Arctic exploration. The forum is organized by the Belarusian National Technical University and the Alekseev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University with the support of the Union State Standing Committee, the Education Ministries of Belarus and Russia.
