MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – The international exhibition project “Nadia. To the 115th Anniversary Since the Birth of Nadezhda Khodasevich” featuring items from French private art collections and the holdings of the National Art Museum of Belarus will be on view in Minsk from 23 October till 24 November, BelTA learned from the French Embassy in Belarus.
The exhibition will be displayed in the National Art Museum. Visitors are invited to get familiar with works of famous artist Nadezhda Khodasevich Leger and learn about her efforts to popularize the world art. The exhibition will demonstrate more than 50 works (paintings, drawings, lithographies, and silkscreens) from French private collections, including the collection of the artist's descendants, and from the holdings of the National Art Museum of Belarus. The exhibits will illustrate the diversity of Nadezhda Khodasevich's talent, outline stages of her artistic career and changes in style, present various genres, and tell about her civic position. The exhibition will also feature works of Fernand Leger and Pablo Picasso that Nadezhda Khodasevich gave the museum as a gift.
The exhibition has been organized by the National Art Museum with support of the French Embassy in Belarus. The project has become possible thanks to the EU MOST program.
The year 2019 celebrates the 115th anniversary since the birth of famous Belarus-born artist and legendary figure Nadezhda Khodasevich Leger (1904-1982). Her role in the art of the 20th century and in cultural relations during the Iron Curtain period is invaluable. Being an original and versatile artist (panel painting, graphics, mosaic), Nadezhda Khodasevich Leger paid close attention to popularizing the artistic heritage of Fernand Leger (1881-1955), one of the best French artists of the first half of the 20th century. She organized exhibitions of Soviet artists in France and supported her compatriots. In late 1960s – early 1970s, Nadezhda Khodasevich Leger visited the Soviet Union, in particular, Belarus. During her visit, she left several priceless gifts for Russian and Belarusian museums. In 1967-1968, the National Art Museum received facsimile reproductions of paintings by renowned European artists (360 items). In 1973, the museum got a unique collection of casts of sculptures and reliefs (173 pieces) as well as ceramic works of Pablo Picasso. Later, Nadezhda Khodasevich Leger also presented the museum her graphic works and works of Fernand Leger.
