European Union to allocate €150,000 to create, promote Augustow Canal brand

GRODNO, 25 October (BelTA) – The European Union will allocate about €150,000 for creating and promoting a brand name for the Augustow Canal, representatives of the Sport and Tourism Office of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee told BelTA.

The Belarusian part of the Augustow Canal is now a destination in the international project meant to provide technical assistance with the sustainable development of the tourism industry in Belarus. The project will be implemented over the course of 12 months through November 2017.

As part of the project a strategy for the sustainable development of the tourism and recreation park Augustow Canal will be put together. A brand name for the park will be worked out. All kinds of media products will be made, including videos, printed leaflets, and commercials. As part of the project strong and distinguishing traits of the Augustow Canal will be determined in comparison with similar territories in the neighborhood. The strong traits will be actively promoted on the tourism market.

Apart from the Augustow Canal similar decisions will be made in Polotsk District, Myadel District, Mstislavl District, Pruzhany District, and Kamenets District. Local jobs will be created in these areas, the state of the tourism industry will be analyzed. Strategies and plans on the sustainable development of the tourism industry will be worked out. Fact-finding tours, seminars, and training sessions will be arranged. The project's implementation is expected to increase tourist traffic by at least 20%.
