Eurasian Economic Union to launch small satellite

SOCHI, 11 October (BelTA) – Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union intend to design and launch a compact spacecraft of their own. The matter was discussed by the heads of state during the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council session in Sochi on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

Eurasian Economic Union cooperation in providing space and geoinformation services using national sources of remote Earth sensing data was initially part of the agenda. The countries intend to develop the relevant interstate program.

In the future the Eurasian Economic Union intends to establish manufacturing cooperation schemes and insert into orbit the first small spacecraft. Batch production and deployment of the joint orbital satellite group are supposed to begin by 2023.

The heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union member states signed the instruction on preparing proposals for the interstate program and submitting them for their consideration by November 2018.
