EU funding helps Belarusian firefighters raise community awareness about safe life

VITEBSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The Emergencies Ministry spent about €100,000 allocated by the European Union on creating themed educational sites in Vitebsk Oblast in 2017, BelTA learned from Alexander Klobuk, Chief of the Vitebsk Oblast Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, on 17 January.

In 2017 the Glubokoye District department, the Dokshitsy District department, and the Polotsk District department of the Vitebsk Oblast Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry won a contest of mini projects financed by the European Union. Thanks to that themed educational sites for small kids were arranged by the Emergencies Ministry in these districts in late 2017. Educational mannequins for training first aid procedures were acquired. Community service advertisements about safe ways of life were put up outdoors. An educational classroom was opened in Glubokoye District in association with the local utilities company. Power pumps were acquired.

A partnership agreement was signed with colleagues from Lithuania and Latvia in late 2017 in order to implement a joint project within the framework of the 2016-2020 Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus transboundary cooperation program. The project's implementation is supposed to start in 2018.

Alexander Klobuk remarked that in their search for new forms of education the Vitebsk Oblast branch of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry implemented several projects with cultural workers. Theater performances were arranged to improve the community awareness about ways to prevent fires.

Following the established tradition, Vitebsk Oblast firefighters take part in regional, international, and national events taking place in the region. Exhibition performances and interactive themed sites always boost spirits of Vitebsk Oblast guests and residents, contributing a lot to community awareness efforts among the local population and visitors.

The local firefighters also keep in mind remote populated localities by means of community service advertisements on consumer goods. The ads are designed to attract attention to life safety and fire safety matters. A number of local food producers participate in the effort now.
