Ensuring equal rights of citizens named among Union State priorities

GOMEL, 13 February (BelTA) - Harmonization of the laws on equal rights of citizens of Belarus and Russia was high on the agenda of a meeting of the commission on legislation and regulations of the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly, BelTA has learned.

The event was attended by representatives of the authorities of the frontier regions of Belarus and Russia. The members of the commission discussed the results of the parliamentary hearings on the approximation of laws of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation to ensure the equal rights of citizens in the Union State held in Bryansk, Russia on 16 December 2017.

“The outcome document of the parliamentary hearings issued in the form of recommendations identified the priorities for the development of the Union State in 2018-2020. Harmonizing the legislation to ensure the equal rights of citizens and economic entities of Belarus and Russia was outlined as the priority measure,” noted Alla Bodak, the deputy chairperson of the PA commission,Chairperson of the Council of the Republic's permanent commission on legislation and state construction.

The outcome document of the parliamentary hearings was finalized taking into account the suggestions made by the participants of the event and submitted to the members of the PA commission on legislation and regulations. Following the discussion, the members of the commission decided to endorse the recommendations of the parliamentary hearings “Approximation of laws of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation to ensure the equal rights of citizens of the Union State”.
