MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – An electric scooter is in development in Belarus, BelTA learned from Nikolai Yankevich, Director General of the instrument-making factory Optron of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The executive said: “We have already developed an electric bicycle. An electric scooter is the next step. A prototype is already being assembled. We intend to send it for trials by the end of the month. There are plans to retail about 500 electric scooters as early as H1 2018.”

Future plans include starting the production of other kinds of individual electric transport such as gyro scooters, electric rickshaws, electric skateboards, and electric kick scooters. “We intend to finish developing this global project within one year in order to start batch production within three years,” noted Nikolai Yankevich.

This year the Optron factory has modernized a motorized wheel for light transport vehicles, has developed a new control module and software. This motorized wheel is used to develop individual electric transport solutions.
