DUNHUANG, 19 September (BelTA) – The influence of the Belt and Road initiative on the processes in the global economy, and also new opportunities for multilateral cooperation in the area of information and technologies are in the focus on attention at the Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road that officially opened in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, China on 19 September, BelTA has learned.
The international meeting has gathered more than 300 delegates from about 250 mass media outlets from different countries. The forum has been organized by China's biggest newspaper Renmin Ribao.
During the opening ceremony of the forum Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhang Ping stressed that the Chinese Belt and Road initiative is designed to promote the economic and technological development of all its participants and also help solve problems and conflicts in the world.
“This important project supported by many states meets the present-day needs and interests of all humanity. This is a plan designed to assist the development of the international community,” he said.
Zhang Ping also noted: “The Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road is a large-scale event. It has already proved itself as an efficient business venue to discuss important aspects of cooperation between the printed, electronic and broadcasting media from different regions of the world. In our opinion, the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative should be based on a cultural exchange and bridges of understanding. Mass media play a special and important role here.”
Gansu Province is the hub of the Belt and Road initiative. Dunhuang, the city which is hosting the international media forum these days, was once known as a pearl of the ancient Silk Road and possesses a rich historical and cultural heritage.
