Digital registration for foreigners in Belarus by year end

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – A system for the digital registration of foreigners will go online in Belarus by the end of the year, the press service of the Belarusian Interior Ministry told BelTA.

On 2 June 2017 the Council of Ministers of Belarus released resolution No.412 to amend the rules of stay of foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Republic of Belarus. The changes will come into force on 15 July 2017. In line with the new rules foreigners will no longer have to personally show up at the registration agency if they have already been registered using a dedicated website. Showing up in person will be optional.

The changes have been brought about by the law on carrying out administrative procedures using a dedicated government services website (portal.gov.by). The law will come into force on 15 July 2017. Individuals and corporations will be able to access the website to submit (revoke) applications for administrative procedures. They will be able to get administrative decisions (notifications about the administrative decisions that have been made). Users will also be able to submit (revoke) administrative complaints in a digital form.

The Belarusian Interior Ministry and the National Center for Electronic Services are now tuning the website to allow foreigners, who intend to temporarily stay in Belarus, to get registered remotely. The feature will become available by 31 December 2017. Explanations on how foreign citizens and stateless persons can get registered using the website will be prepared. Foreigners are advised to get registered using the conventional procedure until the online registration becomes available.

Apart from that, the Interior Ministry is working to add some other administrative procedures to the government services website in 2018. Those include, for instance, procedures involved in sending invitations for foreigners to visit Belarus and the issuance of work permits to foreigners.
