Digital pass to enter Belarusian border zone by year end

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – By the end of 2016 the State Border Committee of Belarus will introduce digital passes that will allow visiting the border zone, BelTA learned from Sergei Pateyuk, Head of the Information Technologies Office of the State Border Committee of Belarus.

“We are working on it and intend to deploy a system of digital passes that will allow people to visit the border zone. Visitors will not have to carry hardcopy passes since border guard officers will be able to scan the passport to determine whether the citizen has been granted the digital pass or not,” said Sergei Pateyuk.

The official explained that at present if anyone wants to visit the border zone, he or she has to go to a specific border guard unit and submit a package of documents. If the application is approved, the applicant has to go back some time after to get the hardcopy permit.

Digital passes will be issued by the website of the National Center for Electronic Services (NCES). Applicants will have to enter their passport data and attach scanned documents in the jpeg format. If the application is approved, the applicant will get the ordinal number of the pass. After that when entering the border zone, the visitor will just have to tell the number or show his or her passport to the border service officers.
