Deeper Dnieper River to facilitate cargo transportation between Belarus, Ukraine

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – During the recent meeting in Kiev Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Anatoly Sivak and Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Omelyan signed a roadmap on dredging work along the Dnieper River for the sake of enabling cargo transportation by river-sea vessels, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine told BelTA.

Representatives of the European Commission, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank were present during the ceremony. These structures expressed readiness to provide financial support for the planned operations. The dredging work is supposed to be done in the section starting with the Nizhniye Zhary village in Belarus and ending with the Kiev hydropower plant.

The roadmap will be implemented as part of the international project to restore the E40 route. It will be another avenue of Belarusian-Ukrainian cooperation in the development of transport and logistics corridors in the North-South direction using inland waterways.
