CSTO to improve measures to prevent illegal migration

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – The Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) adopted a decision to improve the measures to counter illegal migration during the summit in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The document was drafted as part of the effort to implement the priority tasks brought forward by Belarus for the period of its CSTO presidency.

Since 2008, relevant government bodies of the CSTO member states annually perform Nelegal operations, a set of coordinated operational and preventive measures and special operations to fight illegal migration.

With the status of an ongoing CSTO operation granted to Nelegal, the CSTO's activities will become more flexible and effective. This will provide an opportunity to conduct the operation in separate fields and coordinate it with national operational and preventive measures to counter illegal migration (Migrant, Illegal Migrant).

Belarus took over the CSTO presidency on 14 October 2016. Belarus' priorities are strengthening the CSTO's influence on the international arena, bringing the operational crisis response system to a new stage, boosting the operational readiness of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force, expanding the CSTO's agenda with economic safety matters, taking a set of additional measures to counter international terrorism and drug trafficking, and also ensuring a stable migration situation.
