MOSCOW, 8 February (BelTA) – The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has begun the formation of a peacekeeping police unit, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov told a press conference in Moscow on 8 February, BelTA has learned.
According to Valery Semerikov, the UN has been showing interest in the CSTO's peacekeeping potential. “We started the formation of a stand-by peacekeeping police unit at the request of the UN in 2017,” Valery Semerikov said.
He expressed confidence that the formation process will be completed in 2018.
The peacekeeping police unit will comprise special subdivisions, experts, and operational officers, the CSTO deputy secretary general specified.
