KAZAN, 26 May (BelTA) – The CIS member states signed an agreement for cooperation in harmonizing approaches to the legal and technical regulation, conformity assessment, standardization, accreditation and metrological support in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, BelTA has learned.
The agreement was developed due to the absence of a multilateral intergovernmental agreement in the CIS legal framework to regulate cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The agreement is aimed at developing a coordinated policy and defining priority areas for technical regulation activities in the area of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The document details common principles of cooperation: the priority on nuclear and radiation security with the fulfillment of compulsory requirements; the unity of identification, classification and encrypting systems; mandatory compliance assessment; establishing requirements taking into account the recommendations of the IAEA and other international organizations; possible mutual or unilateral recognition of the results of the accreditation results by conformity assessment bodies; unity of measurement.
