CIS Executive Committee donates clean-up day money to Belarusian pediatric oncology center

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The CIS Executive Committee donated the money raised during the Belarusian National Clean-up Day to the Belarusian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

A CIS delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Agybay Smagulov visited the center to give the money certificate. The CIS officials were impressed with the scientific achievements of the Belarusian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology, one of the world's leaders in its area. The center helps the Belarusians, as well as the patients from other CIS member countries.

Olga Aleinikova, director of the Belarusian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology, thanked the CIS Executive Committee for the annual financial support and assured that every ruble will be used for the benefit of patients.

Olga Aleinikova has recently met with the directors of other CIS leading pediatric oncology research centers during a scientific conference in Moscow. The parties agreed to carry out a common project to improve the care of cancer patients in the CIS. They also discussed launching a new cancer register (database) for the CIS member countries. They also agreed to develop advanced training of the centers' staff, set up common protocols on oncology diagnostics and treatment, to establish palliative care centers.

The Belarusian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology opened in 1997 thanks to the fruitful cooperation of the Belarusian and Austrian governments, and the Austrian Hilfswerk Organization. The center consists of a clinic, a science department and other supporting medical facilities.
