China to provide financial assistance to build 20,000m2 of social housing in Gomel Oblast in 2017

GOMEL, 22 March (BelTA) – Some 20,000m2 of social housing will be built in Belarus' Gomel Oblast with technical and economic assistance from China, Andrei Baranovsky, the head of the architecture and construction division of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, told BelTA.

He said that plans have been made to build more than 410 apartments that will be given, first of all, to representatives of vulnerable categories, including orphaned children, people with disabilities, and families with children with disabilities. “Successful implementation of this social project is among the priority tasks for our construction specialists. The apartment buildings are erected ahead of schedule, and there are no issues with timely payment for the works. The total amount of investments will reach Br21.5 million,” Andrei Baranovsky noted.

The first stage of the investment project will build six apartment buildings, with one in the city of Gomel, two in Gomel District, one in Mozyr, one in Svetlogorsk, and one in Buda-Koshelyovo. A block of flats was commissioned in the town of Yubileinyi, Gomel District in February 2017. The construction projects in other districts of the region are also well underway. Andrei Baranovsky said that there is no doubt that the houses will welcome their residents as scheduled.

Preparations are in progress for the second stage of the project. The signed contracts envisage the construction and commissioning of another six apartment buildings in Dobrush, Zhitkovichi, Kalinkovichi, Korma, and Rechitsa District (a total of 14,600m2 of housing) in 2017-2018. “The regional capital construction division, which is the contractor of the projects, has already prepared the design specifications and estimates for all the projects,” Andrei Baranovsky noted.
