Call to hold more professional skills competitions among young people in CIS

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – The CIS Executive Committee suggests holding more professional skills competitions among young people, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“The professional skills competitions among young people such as WorldSkills are growing more popular. It is good to see CIS representatives among the prizewinners in these competitions. We must learn from this experience and arrange more competitions among young turners, millers, hairdressers, kindergarten teachers, etc. in the CIS,” Sergei Lebedev said.

This practice will gain traction in the CIS, the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee believes. It has already received support at the highest level. The CIS Executive Committee, for its part, will assist in conducting such contests.

Education issues will be high on the agenda of a session the CIS permanent plenipotentiaries in Minsk on 20 February. In particular, the plenipotentiaries will discuss the next congress of teachers and education employees and examine the work done since the last congress in Moscow in 2016. “We requested the information from the CIS member states and are happy to note that very much has been accomplished both in terms of creating a common educational space in the CIS and with regard to access to educational institutions,” said Sergei Lebedev. Many young people successfully study in the universities in the neighboring states, on equal terms.
