Call to have more Belarusian books translated into foreign languages

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – We need to have more Belarusian books translated into foreign languages, First Deputy Head of Belarus' President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov said at the 25th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair, BelTA has learned.

When touring the Germany exposition Maksim Ryzhenkov noted that the Belarusians know and love the German classical writers. “We would like Germany to learn more about the Belarusian literature, both modern and classic,” he added.

Maksim Ryzhenkov suggested that the Information Ministry draw up a list of works that could be of interest to German readers, that could show the soul of the Belarusians.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar concurred with this opinion. “But it is not a question of will. It is a matter of the market,” he said.

The Year of Native Land theme and international cooperation of Belarusian writers with men of letters from different countries are in the limelight of the 25th Minsk International Book Fair. Taking part in the event are 360 exhibitors from 32 countries.
