Call for competitive 4G offers, smart home, Big Data technologies in Belarus

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – It is necessary to encourage competition in providing Internet access via 4G technologies in addition to incentivizing the development of smart home and Big Data technologies. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin made the relevant statement during the session of the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry board on 28 July, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.

During the session Information Technologies and Communications Minister Sergei Popkov presented a report covering results of the telecommunication industry's social and economic development in January-June and the tasks that need to be accomplished to hit this year's development targets. Heads of telecommunication companies also presented their reports.

Anatoly Kalinin outlined results achieved by the national economy in the period and noted that in H1 2016 the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry is expected to hit all the assigned social and economic development targets.

The Deputy Prime Minister gave instructions to work out additional measures to attract foreign direct investments and increase the export of services.

Close attention was paid to the need to improve the quality of mobile cellular communication services and to encourage competition on the market of services relying on the 4G (LTE) network.

The Deputy Prime Minister also gave instructions to put more efforts into introducing information technologies, to coordinate the transition of government agencies to the digital government. A relevant legal act is supposed to be drafted.

Additional instructions were given to introduce new technologies in Belarus, including smart home and Big Data ones.
