BSU Digital Library tops CEE libraries on Ranking Web of Repositories

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Belarusian State University (BSU) Digital Library is the leader among Central and Eastern European libraries according to the Ranking Web of Repositories research group, the BSU press service told BelTA.

BSU Digital Library outperformed the repositories of the famous universities in Russia, Poland and Ukraine.

BSU Digital Library is the 135th in the world ranking of repositories and the 127th among several thousand university libraries on the list.

The Belarusian State University Fundamental Library (BSU FL) was one of the first Belarusian libraries to register the BSU publications in the world databases. BSU FL has launched the process of converting its hardcopy documents to electronic files, thus making them accessible to the international scientific community. At the moment there are about 120,000 documents in BSU Digital Library.

Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Repository is the 470th in the main ranking and the 465th in the institutional ranking. The digital libraries of Belarusian State Economic University (751, 751) and Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (800, 779) also landed high in the world ranking.

The ranking uses web indicators to measure the global visibility and impact of the scientific repositories. The aim of the ranking is to support the free access to scientific publications in an electronic form and to other academic material. The Ranking Web of Repositories intends to motivate both institutions and scholars to have a web presence that reflects accurately their activities, maintaining the high standards of quality of the peer review processes.
