BREST, 8 December (BelTA) – Sister cities will be invited to take part in celebrations of Brest's 1000th anniversary, Chairman of the Brest Council of Deputies Nikolai Krasovsky noted as he met with Minister of Culture and Archival Affairs of Russia's Ingushetia Maret Gadziyeva on 8 December, BelTA has learned.
“In 2015, we met with the administration of Ingushetia and the town of Malgobek which then signed a twinning agreement with Brest. We agreed to maintain all-round cooperation. Today's event continues the interaction we mapped out two years ago. We plan to arrange over a thousand events in the year marking Brest's 1000th anniversary. We will invite representatives of our sister cities to take part in them. I believe that Malgobek will be decently represented in cultural dimension and other fields,” Niolai Krasovsky underlined.
Ingushetia will eagerly respond to the invitation, Maret Gadziyeva replied. “We will definitely include something ethnic in the program. There will be choreography and music so that we can show our historical features and distinctiveness,” the minister remarked.
Following the meeting, Ingushetia's delegation visited the Brest Fortress Memorial. The guests laid wreath to the eternal flame to commemorate the defenders of the fortress. “Your city is associated with heroism, courage, and the victory of life. The fact that over one hundred Ingushetia natives protected this land also encouraged us to come here. Every delegate wanted to visit the memorial. It is essential as the younger generation considers it important and necessary to commemorate the heroes,” Maret Gadziyeva underlined.
Brest residents will be able to learn more about the culture of Ingushetia at the Brest Oblast Trade Union Palace of Culture. They will see Ingushetia's best art teams and soloists along with an exhibition of pictures and national costumes. Another highlight is the presentation of the documentary Cultures of Ingushetia.
