Belarusian Vityas to offer electric bikes ahead of 2nd European Games

VITEBSK, 27 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian company OAO Vityas is working on supplying electric bicycles to companies that rent out bicycles, to travel agencies, and other interested companies ahead of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 so that guests and participants of the competitions could appreciate the comfort and design of the new product, BelTA learned from the company's Director General Gennady Azarov.

Bicycles became a part of the urban transport system a long time ago. The electric variety is popular in many countries across the globe and offers new advantages and capabilities. “This is why we've decided to go ahead with the project and intend to make available an environmentally friendly kind of transportation in Minsk during the games. The quality and capabilities of our electric bicycles will also be appreciated by summer residents and people permanently living in rural areas,” the executive noted.

The first batch will be made in May. The Vityas electric bicycle is designed for urban and rural conditions and can travel for 70km as fast as 25kmph. The bicycle weighs about 20kg. It can be folded and easily transported by metro, by rail, or in a car trunk. It takes up to four hours to charge the bicycle. The charger is part of the package.

In the future OAO Vityas intends to expand the lineup of environmentally friendly transport using custom designs. “These products are sufficiently profitable and go hand in hand with the company's policy on developing electric transport infrastructure. There is a demand for such products, including on the part of Russian federal retail chains. We are ready to satisfy the demand,” Gennady Azarov noted. Considering the potential of the Russian market, this year's sales may reach 1,000 electric bicycles.

The TV factory Vityas was established in Vitebsk in 1976. In 2010 the enterprise was incorporated as a public joint-stock company (OAO), with the state owning 100% of the charter capital. At present OAO Vityas has versatile business interests. Among other things it makes TV sets and household appliances, medical equipment, electric charging stations, and other high-tech products.
