Belarusian, Turkmen universities to enhance sci-tech cooperation

ASHGABAT, 30 March (BelTA) – Belarusian and Turkmen universities will enhance cooperation in science and technology, Belarus' Education Minister Igor Karpenko told reporters, BelTA informs.

The agreements which were signed between the universities of the two countries today envisage the training of Turkmen students in Belarus, the enhancement of cooperation between universities in science and technology, professional advancement and retraining.

The universities of the two countries have signed 18 documents on cooperation so far. “I think that this cooperation will be expanding,” Igor Karpenko said.

Belarus also invites the Turkmen side to develop cooperation in vocational training. “We can help you here. We can even consider the possibility to set up joint educational institutions on the territory of Turkmenistan,” the minister explained.

The Belarusian Trade and Economic University of Consumer Cooperation and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, the Alexander Pushkin Brest State University and the Seidnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical University, the Brest State Technical University and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, the Brest State Technical University and the Turkmen State Institute of Energy signed cooperation agreements on 30 March.

The Polotsk State University and the International Oil and Gas University signed a memorandum of cooperation. The Belarusian State Technological University and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have signed an agreement on cooperation in science, technology and innovations, education and personnel training.

There are about 9,000 university students from Turkmenistan in Belarus majoring in medicine, technology, teaching and other fields.
