Belarusian statistics agency contributes to European Statistics Code of Practice discussion

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Representatives of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus took part in the latest conference on the European Statistics Code of Practice and the common statistics law in Lvov, Ukraine, BelTA has learned.

The event took place as part of the Eastern Partnership Initiative's second platform “Economic integration and convergence with EU policies”. Experts representing the statistics services of Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and experts from Latvia, Italy, the UK, Norway, and Eurostat took part in the conference.

Participants of the conference discussed the practical implementation of fundamental official statistics principles in the European Union and Eastern Partnership Initiative countries, coordination of national statistics systems and the common statistics law that has been developed in the form of recommendations and for the sake of supporting further improvement of the legal and institutional foundations of the official statistics services in Eastern Europe, Caucasia, and Central Asia countries.

The experience of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus in implementing fundamental principles of official statistics was presented during the conference.

As part of the discussion about the coordination of national statistics systems criteria of conformance of official statistics producers with the European Statistics Code of Practice and the common statistics law were determined. It was noted that the common statistics law should give the national statistics services the authority to coordinate other producers of official statistics data.

Results of the conference will contribute to the foundation of the draft strategy on developing the state statistics service for the period after 2017, noted representatives of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.
