Belarusian senators to focus on harmonizing Eurasian Economic Union legislation

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – During the first session members of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament will pay close attention to harmonizing the legislation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement as he opened the session of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament on 30 November, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich remarked that the Council of the Republic should discuss in detail the unification and harmonization of legislation in the Eurasian Economic Union. “It is quite a complicated matter because there is no parliamentary dimension in the Eurasian Economic Union and we have to rely primarily on the Eurasian Economic Commission and submit proposals and remarks,” he said.

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament reminded that an Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in Saint Petersburg in late November. “The heads of the parliaments expressed rather serious concerns about the lack of conformity in the legislation regulating the domestic market of the Eurasian Economic Union. Concrete proposals were put forward. Rather serious remarks concerning the Eurasian Economic Commission were made,” noted Mikhail Myasnikovich.

The Chairman of the Council of the Republic mentioned the main tasks that the Belarusian senators will have to fulfill with regard to legislative activity and fieldwork.
