Belarusian, Russian customs services to work harder to fight corruption

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – The customs services of Belarus and Russia have reached an agreement on stepping up joint efforts in the fight against corruption, BelTA learned from the website of the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

A routine meeting of representatives of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Federal Customs Service of Russia and the Internal Affairs Office of the State Customs Committee of Belarus took place in Minsk on 23 June. Specialists discussed problems of organizational and legal nature in the interaction of the two customs services in their prevention of and fight against abuses of offices. The sides also talked over ways to share the latest information and take measures to counteract corruption manifestations in customs affairs.

The sides agreed to take measures with a view to developing and signing an international regulatory document that will provide the legal base for interaction between the customs services of the bordering countries.

Representatives of the Federal Customs Service of Russia are also expected to visit the Grodno Oblast division and the Brest Oblast division of the Belarusian customs service to discuss corruption counteraction and share the best practices in taking practical measures to ensure the internal security of customs agencies.
