Belarusian, Russian army units in radio warfare exercise on 19-25 May

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – A special army exercise for radio warfare units of the Belarusian and Russian armies is scheduled to take place on 19-25 May. The exercise will be supervised by Colonel Igor Danilchik, Chief of the Radio Warfare Office of the General Staff of the Belarusian army, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry website.

The exercise is supposed to prepare radio warfare units and assets for the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017. Apart from that, the exercise will improve the level of cohesion of Belarusian and Russian radio warfare units as they carry out their combat missions. The exercise will keep up personnel training levels.

As part of the exercise the radio warfare units will practice getting ready for combat missions, getting ready to use radio warfare assets to isolate the area of operation of militants as well as the imaginary enemy's sabotage and reconnaissance forces. Control over radio warfare units during combat actions meant to repulse aggression against the Union State of Belarus and Russia in a rapidly changing situation will be practiced as well.

It is the first army exercise of the kind that has been staged by the Belarusian and Russian armies. The exercise will use two dedicated training areas and one terrain compartment in Belarus. Taking part in the exercise will be commanding officers from the Belarusian and Russian armies, radio warfare units of the Belarusian army and Russia's Western Military District. Ways and forms of deploying the radio warfare units have been planned taking into account modern localized wars and armed conflicts.
