Belarusian pavilion at Moscow Book Fair uses Year of Native Land theme

MOSCOW, 5 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian pavilion at the 31st Moscow International Book Fair uses the Year of Native Land theme. Belarusian Information Minister Alexander Karlyukevich made the statement during the pavilion's opening ceremony on 5 September, BelTA has learned.

The information minister said: “Following the established tradition, the book trading company Belkniga and publishing houses have brought quite a large number of new books. They primarily cover key events in the country's life. The books include literature dedicated to the Year of Native Land, books on local lore, country tourism, and books focusing on some peculiarities of Belarus.”

According to the information minister, Belarusian publishing houses respond to requests of buyers and visitors of the Moscow International Book Fair and to requests of the Belarusians, who live in Moscow. “You can tell that because of the mass publication of works by Belarusian classics and books dedicated to the Belarusian language, books covering key historical and cultural places of interest in Belarus,” stressed Alexander Karlyukevich.

The choice of Belarusian books on display during the Moscow International Book Fair includes fiction books, educational books, books of foreign literature works translated into Belarusian. “There are a large number of books indicating ties between Belarusian writers and Russian ones,” stated Alexander Karlyukevich. “Those are books, which have been published not only in Belarus, books by writers from Russia's Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Udmurtia, Chuvashia, Chechnya, Kalmykia in Belarusian, but also books by Belarusian writers, which have been printed in languages of peoples of Russia.”

The information minister said that a roundtable session will take place in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia on 6 September to discuss ties of Belarusian writers. Russian translators, writers, publishers, workers of culture will take part in the event.

The Moscow International Book Fair is taking place in the Russian capital on 5-9 September in one of the largest pavilions of the VDNH expo center. Over 300 publishing houses from 25 countries with over 100,000 book titles are taking part in the fair.
