Belarusian nuclear power plant construction progress: 80% of rebars in place, 67% of concrete poured

MOSCOW, 20 June (BelTA) – As many as 80% of the required reinforcement bars have been installed and 67% of the required concrete has been poured as part of the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Progress in building the nuclear power plant was presented during the Atomexpo 2017 forum in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

Since the construction process began as much as 127,000 tonnes of reinforcement bars has been installed, with 798,000m3 of concrete poured.

General construction work is nearing completion as part of the construction of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The installation of electrical wires and heat pipes is about to begin. The installation of the main process equipment, heat machinery equipment, and electric technology equipment is in progress.

The construction and installation work is in full swing at 123 out of 130 facilities and installations of the first and second power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The construction and installation work has been finished at the startup and standby boiler house. Startup and commissioning operations are in progress over there.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian nuclear power plant design AES-2006 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units, with each able to generate 1,200MW of electricity. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.

The ninth international forum Atomexpo 2017 is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 19-21 June. This year's forum is focused on safety, ecology, and stability of nuclear technologies. An exhibition is meant to complement the business program of the expo.
