Belarusian killed in factory explosion in Russia's Leningrad Oblast

MOSCOW, 22 October (BelTA) – The Embassy of Belarus in Russia has confirmed that a Belarusian citizen has been killed by an explosion at a pyrotechnic factory located in the city of Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, BelTA has learned.

The Leningrad Oblast branch of the Investigative Committee of Russia has officially notified the embassy that a Belarusian citizen born in 1985 has been killed as a result of the explosion.

The factory manufactures camping furniture and pyrotechnic products. The explosion killed four people and injured another seven. The Belarusian was identified as one of the dead.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion continues. The investigators believe that several people without proper qualifications or even job contracts were allowed to work in the third-class pyrotechnic products manufacturing wing. Charges have been pressed against the factory's chief engineer. The accused is now under house arrest.
