Belarusian Interior Ministry focuses on personal, material security of citizens

GOMEL, 14 June (BelTA) – Ensuring the personal security and the security of property of citizens is a priority in the operation of interior ministries. Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich made the statement during the session of the joint board of the interior ministries of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 14 June, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian Interior Minister underlined that such sessions come in handy because the criminal world rapidly adapts to new conditions, including the latest law enforcement methods. Apart from that, the development of the situation in the world necessitates paying closer attention to the protection of national interests, primarily foreign and domestic security. “Systemic and long-term joint actions of preemptive nature taken by Belarusian and Russian law enforcement agencies should be aimed at combining efforts against the real scale of criminalization of the society. The top priorities in the operation of interior ministries include personal security and material security of citizens,” said Igor Shunevich.

The Belarusian Interior Minister reminded that joint efforts had resulted in the absence of criminal wars in Belarus. Contract murders are few and far between. The same can be said about the illegal use of firearms. However, the scale of manifestation of organized crime of general criminal nature still remains a serious factor that destabilizes the social and economic situation in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. “This is why it is necessary to carry on preventing the consolidation of criminal elements. It is necessary to use all the potential at our disposal,” stressed the Belarusian Interior Minister.

The session of the joint board of the Belarusian and Russian interior ministries has been organized to discuss cooperation in fighting organized crime of general criminal nature. Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, their deputies and department heads of the ministries took part in the session. The session of the joint boards of the Belarusian and Russian interior ministries was supposed to discuss the plan for the joint board's operation in 2017, with outcome documents to be signed.
