Belarusian hard-working scientists promised triple salary rate

MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – Salaries of scientists, who produce results, may be raised by three times, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov after the government conference held by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 21 December.

The official said that public sector institutions are rather limited in their ability to raise salaries and give bonuses to scientists. “Now we will be able to considerably — by up to 300% — raise salaries for doctors of science, professors, senior research officers, leading researchers.”

The head of Belarus' Academy of Sciences pointed out that salaries will not be raised for every scientist. Only those, who achieve concrete results in their work, will get them. The administration of institutes, the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will decide on raising salaries. “But we have to see results, the assimilation of R&D products in practice, and sales of cutting-edge innovative products first,” said the official.

According to Vladimir Gusakov, the relevant draft decree was discussed during the government conference held by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 21 December. The head of state wondered how these matters would be regulated and whether the suggested measures would be effective. At the end of the meeting Alexander Lukashenko spoke in favor of adopting this piece of legislation.
