Belarusian, Chinese law enforcement authorities sign cooperation agreements

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – The law enforcement agencies of Belarus and China have signed documents on strategic cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Interior Ministry.

A delegation of the Interior Ministry was in China from 22 to 24 November. During the visit, Interior Minister Igor Shunevich met with Commander of the People's Armed Police of China, General Wang Ning. “Following the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the office of the interior forces commander of the Interior Ministry of Belarus and the People's Armed Police of China for 2017-2018, the press service said.

The Belarusian delegation met with Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Meng Jianzhu, who is also chairman of the Chinese part of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Chinese committee for cooperation. The parties agreed on strategic areas of cooperation between Belarus' Interior Ministry and the law enforcement agencies of the People's Republic of China.

During a meeting with China's Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun, the parties discussed the status of implementation of the cooperation agreement between Belarus' Interior Ministry and China's Ministry of Public Security signed in Beijing on 23 April 2001. The parties reviewed various aspects of practical cooperation in combating transnational organized crime, extremism and terrorism, drug trafficking, and countering illegal migration. The sides also discussed the ways of ensuring public order during major sports events, eradicating corruption, and personnel training. At the conclusion of the meeting, Belarus' Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Public Security of China signed a protocol on cooperation for 2017-2018.

The representatives of the Belarusian Interior Ministry visited the Special Police Academy of the People's Armed Police of China to get familiar with the infrastructure, training of riot police, the hand-to-hand combat training center and the counter-terrorism laboratory.
