Belarusian border service ready for inflow of fans heading for 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian border service is ready for an increase in the flow of fans heading for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.

More than 1,700 fans have crossed Belarus' state border so far. “For the past 24 hours almost 850 people have crossed our border. The border guard service is ready for the further increase in the flow of fans. We have allocated additional personnel in certain border checkpoints,” the committee informed. Among the fans who have arrived in Belarus 220 are from Peru, 213 from Argentina, 134 from the United States and 121 from Morocco.

Special corridors have been designated for organized groups of fans. It takes around 15 times to cross the border of Belarus.

Russia is hosting the FIFA World Cup from 14 June to 15 July. As BelTA reported earlier, on 29 May Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on the rules of entry of foreign nationals and stateless persons attending international sport events. In line with the document, foreign fans will be able to travel through Belarus visa-free during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia from 4 June to 25 July.
