Belarusian air defense units in for live firing in Russian Ashuluk

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Units of the Belarusian army will use the air defense missile systems S-300P and Buk in the Russian exercise area Ashuluk, the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

A tactical exercise for air defense units of the Belarusian army is scheduled for 14 August – 16 September. The exercise is supervised by Deputy Air Force and Air Defense Commander Igor Golub.

Personnel and hardware of the 120th Air Defense Missile Brigade of the Belarusian army are being redeployed by rail to the Russian exercise area Ashuluk. After the trains reach their destination and the troops disembark, the units will march to their designated areas.

During the active phase of the exercise the units will be put on high alert and fire live missiles using the air defense missile systems S-300P and Buk.

The army exercise is supposed to prepare the army units for carrying out their missions. It will also improve field skills of the personnel in the course of live firing.

Later on the same units of the Belarusian army will take part in the CIS air defense exercise Combat Commonwealth 2017, which is scheduled for 4-7 September. The Belarusian army units will practice combat actions to repel air strikes.
