Belarus, USA discuss cooperation in nuclear forensics

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The United States Department of Energy (DOE) and the Investigative Committee of Belarus discussed cooperation in nuclear forensics, BelTA has learned from the committee's website.

The representatives of the DOE visited the central office of the committee as part of the program of international cooperation in nuclear safety. During the working session the parties discussed several issues, for instance, the U.S. assistance in holding workshops and educational courses for the Belarusian crime investigators on nuclear crime scene investigation, handling radioactive materials and contaminated objects, features of work in contaminated area. The Investigative Committee of Belarus briefed the US representatives about its experience in proof discovery, withdrawal and holding.

“The meeting was constructive and friendly. The parties confirmed that the two countries should maintain collaboration in nuclear forensics and apply its advances in response to the events affecting national and international security. The representatives of the DOE said they look forward to continued cooperation with the Belarusian law enforcement bodies,” says the website of the Belarusian Investigative Committee.
