Belarus to welcome IAEA's EPREV mission in October

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus will welcome an Emergency Preparedness Review (EPREV) mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in October, BelTA learned from Oleg Sobolev, Head of the Communications and Public Information Department of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor).

Oleg Sobolev said: “Belarus is going to welcome an Emergency Preparedness Review mission in October 2018. The country will also welcome several other IAEA missions before the Belarusian nuclear power plant goes online.”

The Gosatomnadzor representative pointed out that countries are free to invite IAEA missions and Belarus tightly cooperates with the agency. For instance, in order to evaluate compliance with international safety standards Belarus has requested and welcomed the IAEA's IRRS and SEED missions in the last two years. In addition to giving recommendations the experts singled out the good Belarusian practices, which can be adopted by other countries.
