MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – In 2017, Belarus will start training specialists in a new program Operation of NPPs. The information is contained in the seventh national report on the implementation of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian higher educational establishments continue training specialists in eight new nuclear engineering programs, including Nuclear Physics and Technology, Construction of Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants, Steam Turbines of Nuclear Power Plants, and others.
The new program includes 5/5.5-year basic training at Belarusian universities with on-site training at foreign NPPs, advanced training (0.5-3 years) for specialists who already have experience of working at Belarusian power plants, and individually-designed courses at the training center of the Belarusian NPP.
Sixteen specialists have already been trained at Ivanovo State Power Engineering Institute named after Vladimir Lenin, with another sixteen at Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering under the 2008-2020 state program for preparing nuclear industry specialists for Belarus.
In training nuclear specialists, Belarus resorts to IAEA technical assistance. Among other things, the assistance includes seminars and workshops, visits to foreign training centers and research institutions, and also visits to already-functioning nuclear power plants.
The national report reads that the Belarusian NPP will employ 2,321 specialists.
