VIENNA, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarus is going to return the compromised reactor vessel after the off-nominal situation in accordance with the relevant agreement with Russia. Director General of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Mikhail Filimonov made the statement on the sidelines of the 60th session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna on 27 September, BelTA has learned.
The executive said: “A reactor vessel is a piece of equipment. Such matters take time. It is necessary to take into account the operation of the railway and other matters. Everything proceeds in accordance with our agreement with Russia. The Russian side will take back the reactor vessel. There is no doubt about that. The decision has been made. Now the decision is being implemented.”
The Director General pointed out that the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant proceeds as usual, equipment is being installed. “A considerable part of the equipment has been delivered to the Ostrovets construction site and is being installed. For instance, turbines are being installed,” said Mikhail Filimonov. About 40% of the equipment the nuclear power plant needs is being manufactured.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
