Belarus to institute up to 100 scholarships for foreigners in 2019

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – Belarus will award up to 100 scholarships to foreign students starting from 1 September 2019. This decision was formalized in Belarus president decree No. 232 as of 12 June 2018 and published on the National Legal Internet Portal, BelTA has learned.

In line with the decree, up to 100 scholarships will be granted to foreign nationals and stateless persons permanently residing outside Belarus. The scholarships will cover tuition fees and will be awarded in line with the quotas determined by the Education Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The scholarship recipients will be enrolled in state-run institutions of higher learning or vocational schools. The selection procedure will be determined by the Council of Ministers.

Successful applicants will be entitled to bursaries and bonuses for academic achievement and involvement in extra-curricular activities. They will be provided with a dormitory for the period of study, but the educational institution will charge for it.

The Council of Ministers was given three months to elaborate an action plan to implement the decree. The decree comes into force after official publication.
