Belarus to inquire about potential issues with decommissioning of Lithuania's Ignalina NPP

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus will file some questions with Lithuania regarding the speculations about the problems at the Ignalina nuclear power plant, Vladimir Markov, senior specialist with the information and public relations department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“There are several nuclear power plants near the Belarusian border, and some of them are being phased out. Lately the media, including Lithuanian media, have started to report on some issues related to the decommissioning of the Ignalina nuclear power plant. In this connection, we will send Lithuania some questions regarding the decommissioning of the Ignalina nuclear power plant, and we will wait for a response,” Vladimir Markov said.

The Ignalina nuclear power plant was in service for 26 years and was shut down on 31 December 2009.
